Our Story:

Yorkville Recycling, Inc. is a rag to riches story.  It is a story of opportunity and imagination.  This company was started by J.L. Needham and his 11 year old son, Jason Needham, and has continued to remain a family owned and operated business.  J.L has been a businessman involved in recycling since early childhood.  It all started with a flour sack, a pony and a determined little boy.

At age 8, J.L was determined to make his own money so he set out every day on his pony named Danny, flour sack in tow.  They scoured every roadside that could be reached looking for bottles.  Even then J.L. knew these bottles were worth something.  They could be turned in for $0.02 per bottle.  Little did this determined boy know he had not only found bottles, but he had also found his destiny.

Thirty years later this determined little boy had turned into an even more determined man.  He was presented an opportunity while working at a factory and he knew it.  Not many shared in his ideas, but the one who believed the most meant the most, his 11 year young son.  He, like his father knew the value in what he saw.  He wanted to bale the paper offered to them by his father’s company for spending money.  So they parked a cotton trailer behind the factory for collection and things sky rocketed from there.

Soon there were not enough hours in the day to keep up with the demand.  They had acquired several other factories and grocery stores in the area.  The after school and Saturday job had begun to consume Jason.  They had to buy a larger baler.  This one would not fit under the shade tree the other was under.  They were forced to build a building to house their new monster.  It was not long after that, that J.L. decided to quit his job and start Yorkville Recycling, Inc. in 1992.  This was done with the help of his father, son, daughter, wife and one other employee.  It was a true family business in every sense of the word.

It has been thirteen years since Yorkville Recycling, Inc. has been incorporated.  It started as a young boy’s way to earn a few extra cents, to his son’s way to earn a few extra dollars; to the sole source of income for their families.  It is still a family owned and operated business by J.L and Jason Needham.  It has grown in size since 1992, it now has 7 employees, and two truck drivers.  Yorkville Recycling, Inc. not only recycles paper and cardboard now, but also plastic, ferrous and nonferrous metals.  Yorkville Recycling, Inc. is continuously growing, but is still keeping touch with its roots at the same time.  Not only does J.L. know the value of a dollar, he knows the value of a customer.
